Halloween Madness 2024

I dressed as Peter Jackson for a Lord of the Rings group costume and I didn’t get a single picture! This roll spans between two parties, 2 nights apart. The first, classy and dignified.

The second, silly and uncouth.

Our intrepid Olympus Accura wins again, as it over performs in areas I thought it would falter. Maybe its time I stop leaning on the failure of the gear and embracing my ability to suss out the best way to shoot a scenario?

As much fun as the first night’s party would be, the second night would be the kind of chaotic adventure that only comes from embracing an evening full of youthful enthusiasm and zest. Our group decided, even though we are Ren Fair die hards and do medieval adjacent dress throughout the course of the year, to be Lord of the Rings characters. We had:

  • Boromir
  • Denethor
  • Gandalf
  • Saruman
  • Peter Jackson (me!)
  • Eye of Sauron, sorry SEXY Eye of Sauron (Catrena!)
  • Aragorn

We also had a cowboy, a hippie hitchhiker and a wacky inflatable waving arm tube guy, but lets not get hung up on the details (Polaroids of the group coming soon.). This was at something called the Brew-ha-ha, an all-you-can-drink (as long as they don’t run out) beer, cider, etc fest that also brought a long a few bands I remember (but had never seen) from the 90s; Save Ferris & Lit. After enough all-you-can-drink, any of us could be found in that pit, even Gandalf.

I haven’t really used the zoom lens on this Olympus Accura, it took inebriation to get me out of my comfort zone to push in on the band and I’ll be perfectly honest, the results are great. I had the wherewithal to shut off the flash, and only tried to shoot when the band’s lights were blasting. And it worked out!

This roll is far from perfect, but its exemplary of the night as a whole. In the right light even a blurry photo starts to look cool. Check out the full gallery below.
